Soon after coming downstairs this morning I started some new writing. For a few moments I wondered if it would happen and what I might do if it didn’t. Of last night’s dream all I could remember was that I was considered an expert on something and everyone deferred to my opinion. At fitness class we did two rounds of eight exercises. I found a work-around for some of the plank up-downs. And the archer chest presses. We all agreed the inverted pull-ups were the worst. Some of the stretching at the end was as hard as the workout. I’m not sure this is the good kind of hurt, Allison said as she rolled her hip back and forth over a foam roller. She winced. On the news I saw a story about the Monster Truck Jam coming here this weekend and another on the hidden highs children can find in a home. Cough syrup, gas from a can of whipped cream, hand sanitizer, nutmeg. Nutmeg? The trucks with their giant over-sized tires and tiny jacked-up bodies crawled over each other and other obstacles belching exhaust and churning up dirt. On their show today Nick and the others talked with a woman about trauma and breaking unhealthy patterns. I watched until their discussion started to depress me even though they also discussed therapies and coping strategies or maybe I just needed some quiet on this cold, drizzly day. It’s supposed to rain most of the rest of this week. Intuition was among Spelling Bee’s answers today. Continuity was the pangram.

Ahh those workarounds! Seems to be a part of every barbell class for me since my wrists are weaker than all get out. Pushups and planks require modifications. I get it!
