Thank you, Deborah. The world is such a mess I sometimes feel as if I should post more serious and sober things but, even when the world is so ugly, life continues in its silly, quotidian ways, and, in a way, it is a relief to write about them. I have kind of joked about trying to be the Seinfeld of the personal essay, saying way too much about nothing at all - but it's always good to have goals!
Thank you, Marion. With the world so grim I sometimes feel as if I should post more serious, sober pieces but maybe contemplating life's nonsense still has its place.
Now and then I save cleaning for days when I don't feel as if I am going to accomplish much so I can at least say, Well, I cleaned the refrigerator. Every time I open the freezer and see the bits that have somehow collected there I think, Tomorrow.
Lost socks are the worst! I typically find mine inside the corners of my bottom bed sheet when I wash them together. Pills? Well, that happens far too often. When I refill my vitamin container each week, invariably, a pill rolls under the refrigerator. I am reminded that it is time to roll the fridge out to clean beneath it.

Exactly! I have an entry on my Substack re: "quotidian"! Keep writing about socks and pills. We all need the mundane (and the funny) right now.
I can so relate to this post Polly - really appreciate your work!

Hope tempers the hatred.
Or found! I admit that there is one sock I have never found. It's one of two pair, so I have three of the same sock. I just rotate them.

Don't you just HATE it when that happens? I do.
Some socks do not want to be worn.

I love these daily life stories! So relatable.
